Empowering Simulation Technicians
Beyond the glass....
About the Symposium
This Symposium is for simulation professionals working beyond the glass and is led by Simulation Technicians from within that community.
The event has been shaped to reflect the real context, priorities, and challenges of technical and operational simulation roles — including simulation technology, environments, logistics, systems, and day‑to‑day delivery. By taking a for us, by us approach, the Symposium ensures that its focus, tone, and content are relevant, grounded, and meaningful for the workforce it serves.
Alongside delivering a space for shared learning and discussion, the Symposium also creates opportunities for Simulation Technicians to gain experience in leadership, event planning, governance, and project delivery. These experiences support professional growth within a workforce that often has limited access to such opportunities, despite their importance to career development and service sustainability.
The Symposium is delivered in close collaboration with the host venue’s events and communications teams, ensuring professional, safe, and well‑coordinated delivery while keeping simulation‑led perspectives central to planning and decision‑making.
Working in Partnership
While the Symposium is led by Simulation Technicians, it is delivered through close and intentional partnership with the host venue.
The organising committee works collaboratively with the host venue’s events and communications teams to support operational planning, logistics, and delegate communications. This ensures the Symposium is delivered professionally, safely, and in a way that reflects the realities of the spaces and infrastructure being used.
Importantly, the organising committee includes a Simulation Technician from the host venue, providing a direct link between event planning and local simulation capability. This helps ensure decisions are practical, well‑informed, and aligned with the technical, environmental, and operational context of the venue.
This partnership model allows simulation‑led thinking to sit alongside event management and communications expertise, with clear roles, shared responsibility, and a focus on delivering a high‑quality experience for delegates, speakers, and partners.
Our Ethos
This Symposium exists to support and strengthen the simulation technical workforce.
It is rooted in collaboration, respect for technical expertise, and an understanding of the work that happens beyond the glass to make simulation safe, effective, and sustainable. The Symposium values practical knowledge, shared experience, and open conversation grounded in the realities of technical and operational simulation roles.
By being led from within the community it serves, the Symposium aims not only to create relevant and meaningful content, but also to support professional growth. Leadership, planning, and delivery of the event are intentionally used as opportunities for Simulation Technicians to build skills, confidence, and experience that contribute to individual development and the wider simulation community.
Everything about the Symposium — from its focus to how it is organised — reflects a commitment to relevance, collaboration, and professionalism.
